Milan-San Remo 2024: First Start from Pavia and Traditional Finish in Sanremo
On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the historic cycling event, Milano-Sanremo, will kick off the season with a new start from Pavia and the traditional finish along the famous Via Roma in Sanremo, after a challenging 288 kilometers.
Discover the picturesque Oltrepò Pavese region and return to the original route in Casteggio, with iconic climbs such as the Turchino, the Capi, the Cipressa and the Poggio before the finish line.
Milan – San Remo equals cycling history
The spring classic Milan-San Remo, known as “La Classicissima” or “La Primavera”, marks the start of the cycling season and is the longest one-day race at 298 km. The competition belongs to the Monuments of cycling.
Milan Sanremo record holders
Eddy Merckx is the record holder with seven victories, while Costante Girardengo achieved 11 podium finishes.
This cycling monument was created in 1907
The first edition in 1907 started in icy conditions and was won by Lucien Petit-Breton. Pioneering years were followed by the era of Girardengo and later rivalries between Guerra-Binda and Coppi-Bartali.
Eddy Merckx' Dominance
From 1966 onwards, Eddy Merckx dominated with seven victories, a record in a single classic. After Merckx came sprinter Erik Zabel, and more recent winners include Mark Cavendish.
Memorable Editions of Milano – San Remo
Notable editions in the 90s, including the epic snow-affected race of 2013. In 2015 the finish returned to Via Roma.
