15 Gravel strips and undulating course

Immerse yourself in the cycling splendor of Strade Bianche on March 2, 2024. The course, winding and undulating, does not offer long climbs but is full of challenging sections, especially on the unpaved gravel strips. There are approximately 71 km of gravel roads spread over 15 sectors, twelve of which are shared with the Women Elite course.

Start in Siena

From Fortezza Medicea to Montalcino

The race starts at the Stadium/Fortezza Medicea in Siena. The first kilometers on asphalt lead to the straight and slightly descending gravel sector 1 at km 18. After sector 2 (5.8 km) follows a challenging descent and climb with rises above 10% at Radi. Gravel sector 3 and “La Piana” take the riders to Buonconvento. The Montalcino climb (4 km at 5%) soon follows.

Breathtaking Sectors

Torrenieri to Vico d'Arbia

Sectors 5 (11.9 km) and 6 (8 km) after Torrenieri are tough, hilly and winding. After Buonconvento the feed zone follows at Ponte d'Arbia. Monteroni d'Arbia marks sector 7 (9.5 km) in the Crete Senesi. Sector 8 (11.5 km) at Ponte del Garbo is the toughest, with steep slopes. Via Castelnuovo Berardenga and Monteaperti it goes to Vico d'Arbia for the 30 km circuit.

Descent to the Finish

Piazza del Campo, Siena

The last kilometers towards Siena are on wide roads, with bends and slopes. With 2 km to go, the gradient increases to 9%. The last 900 m are paved with stone, with slopes above 10% and a peak of 16%. Via a sharp bend to Via delle Terme and Via Banchi di Sotto they reach Piazza del Campo. The last 30 m descend at a gradient of 7% to the finish on the flat road surface. An iconic arrival!

De Strade Bianche, sinds 2007, is een Italiaanse wielerkoers door Toscane. Bijna 70 km gaat over onverharde wegen, waardoor diverse renners kans maken op de overwinning. Een heroïsche ervaring met een rijke geschiedenis die teruggaat tot 1997 zorgde er voor dat deze wielerwedstrijd een echte spring classic werd.
